The Special Adviser to the Kogi State Governor on Land Matters, Shuaib Ipinmisho, on Saturday empowered over 200 residents of Ogidi and Ijumu-Oke Residents in Ijumu Local Government Area, as he called for stronger grassroots mobilisation for the All Progressives Congress ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The empowerment programme, themed “Empowering Constituents for a Better Ogidi Community, a Prosperous Ijumu Oke and a Greater All Progressives Congress,” was held at the Ogidi Community Civic Centre.
Beneficiaries, including farmers, youths, women and small-scale entrepreneurs, received food items, agricultural equipment and cash grants running into millions of naira.
Ipinmisho said deserving beneficiaries would get N100,000 each to expand their businesses, while over 200 others would receive N50,000 each to cushion economic hardship. He added that rice and other provisions would be distributed to households, alongside farming inputs to boost food production.
“This is what progressive politics looks like — real impact in the lives of our mothers in the market, our fathers on the farm, and our youth striving to stand,” he said.
The outreach followed Governor Ahmed Ododo’s directive to political appointees to return to their constituencies and mobilise support for the APC ahead of the elections.
Ipinmisho thanked the governor for appointing indigenes of Ogidi and Ijumu Oke into his administration and commended him for returning contractors to the Asaya-Ogidi-Ayere Road, describing it as an economic lifeline for the area.
The Chairman of Ijumu Local Government Area, Ibrahim Haruna, praised Ipinmisho for giving back to his community and noted the impact of the Ododo administration on traditional institutions and road infrastructure in the area. He expressed hope that ongoing work on the Asaya-Ogidi-Ayere Road would soon make it fully motorable.
The Olulokin of Ijumu Land, High Chief Jerry Lola Owonobi, and APC stakeholder Alfred Bello also commended Ipinmisho for prioritising his people’s welfare.
A beneficiary and farmer, Daniel Akomolafe, said the equipment would help expand his farm and reduce reliance on manual labour.
The event featured a raffle draw and awards for individuals who had contributed to the community’s development, and drew political leaders, traditional rulers, party faithful, farmers and youths from Ogidi and Ijumu Oke.
