Banditry, kidnapping and violent crime have moved from isolated incidents to national emergencies. The scale is no longer about history repeating itself. It is about communities living in fear, families broken, and economic activities crippled. Nigeria is crying.

The debate must shift from which government to defend or attack. Every administration inherits security challenges. What citizens demand is relentless, measurable action to protect lives and property. The primary duty of the state is security. That duty must be discharged with transparency, coordination, and zero tolerance for politicization.

Recent cases show the human cost. On March 22, 2026, gunmen attacked ECWA Church Omugo in Oro-Ago, Kwara State during Sunday service and abducted 8 worshippers. Five have since died in captivity, including the Pastor’s wife, according to church authorities. In Oyo State, 46 students and teachers abducted from Oriire LGA since May 15, 2026 remain a national scar, with one teacher reportedly killed. These are not statistics. They are fathers, mothers, children and neighbours.

At Sanity Multi-Efforts Forum SMEF, our objective is to promote order, public safety and accountable service delivery. We believe security is a shared responsibility. Government must lead with resources and policy. Security agencies must act with professionalism. Traditional institutions and local communities must provide intelligence and vigilance. Citizens must support lawful efforts and reject misinformation and unverified videos that spread panic.

Nigeria can overcome this. But only if we move beyond blame and embrace collective action under accountable governance. We pray for the safe return of all kidnapped persons and for a Nigeria where every citizen moves without fear.
