The Kogi State Government has ordered a halt to the planned installation of a new Seriki Hausa in Oworo Land, which had been scheduled to hold on Sunday, September 6, 2026.
The directive followed a meeting presided over by the Permanent Secretary, Kogi State Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Mr Eniola Enimola, and attended by representatives of the Bajana of Obajana, the Olu of Oworo, and the Chairman of Lokoja Local Government Area.

Speaking at the meeting, the Permanent Secretary said all parties involved in the planned installation exercise had been directed to suspend the process forthwith, noting that it failed to follow due process.
Mr Enimola explained that the intervention became necessary to forestall any breakdown of law and order, stressing that the government would not allow the peace of any community in the state to be jeopardised over a chieftaincy matter.
He therefore directed that the status quo be maintained on the stool until further notice, or until the matter is amicably resolved by the parties involved.
The Permanent Secretary reaffirmed the Ministry’s commitment to the maintenance of peace across the state, saying the decision to call off the planned installation was informed by the need to avert any breakdown of law and order in the affected community.
He urged the parties to embrace dialogue and follow due process in resolving the matter, assuring that government would continue to monitor the situation to ensure lasting peace in Oworo Land.
