The remains of Kogi-born Professor of Art Design and Painting, Professor Jimoh Bola Akolo who died on the 3rd of June 2023 at the age of 88years are to be laid to rest on Friday, 6th October 2023 at his country home, Egbe Yagba West Local Government Area.
A Burial announcement by the family obtained by The Drum Reporter explained that the Service of Songs was held on Thursday at 1st ECWA Yoruba Church, Egbe to be followed by a Christian wake at his residence, 50 Okegada Street, ECWA Road Egbe.
His remains will be committed to Mother Earth on Friday 6th October beginning at 9 a.m. at the same residence, while the outing and Thanksgiving service will be held at 1st ECWA Yoruba Church, Egbe at 10 a.m.
Reception follows immediately at Aishat Hall.
He is survived by children and grandchildren.
Jimoh Akolo was a Nigerian Postwar and contemporary painter who was born in 1934.
His work has been offered at auction multiple times, with realized prices ranging from 1,925 USD to 85,354 USD, depending on the size and medium of the artwork. Since 2008 the record price for this artist at auction is 85,354 USD for Bow Harp, sold at Bonhams New Bond Street in 2021.
Having worked meritoriously at the prestigious Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, Prof. Jimoh Akolo retired sometime between the end of 1999 and early 2000.
