The Chairman of Ijumu Local Government Area, Taofiq Isa has directed all appointed Political Office Holders to beware of section 84 (12) of the New Electoral Act.

The section provides that anyone holding a political office at the Federal, State and Local Government levels must relinquish the position before they can be eligible to participate in the electoral process either as a candidate or as a delegate.

The Chairman in a Statement obtained by The Drum Reporters said “This is to inform all political appointees serving in Ijumu Local Government Council and desirous to contest any elective position to be very much aware that with the signing of the amended Electoral law,by His Excellency, the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, political activities are now in full swing.”

Accordingly, political appointees desirous of participating in the political process as a contestant for elective position should take it into cognizance that they are fully on their own, effective from this moment.

He added that “This information is for all Ijumu Local Government Council appointees and it should be strictly followed.”
