The Federal Ministry of Education has dismissed as false and misleading reports circulating on social media alleging that the Federal Government Girls’ College (FGGC), Monguno, Borno State, came under attack, assuring parents and guardians that the school remains safe and fully secured.
This was made known in a statement issued and signed by Director of Press and Public Relations, Federal Ministry of Education, Boriowo Folasade
In the statement, the Ministry described the reports as baseless, irresponsible and capable of creating unnecessary panic, fear and anxiety among parents, guardians and the general public.
It stressed that there was no attack on the school and that all students, staff and boarding facilities remain safe and fully accounted for.
The Ministry stated that academic activities, boarding operations and other school programmes are continuing without disruption in a peaceful and secure environment.
Minister of Education, Dr. Maruf Tunji Alausa, reaffirmed that the safety, security and welfare of students in all Federal Government Colleges remain a top priority of the Federal Government.
He noted that FGGC Monguno operates under robust security arrangements designed to ensure the continuous protection of students, staff and school infrastructure.
The Minister also clarified that no student of FGGC Monguno was involved in the incident being falsely linked to the school. According to him, the affected persons were remedial students outside the college, while the Borno State Government has already taken appropriate measures to safeguard their welfare and ensure their safety.
The Ministry urged the media, bloggers, social media users and online platforms to verify information through credible and official sources before publishing or sharing reports, warning that the deliberate spread of unverified information fuels misinformation, creates unnecessary fear, undermines public confidence and distracts from efforts to provide safe learning environments for students.
It further appealed to parents and guardians to remain calm and continue to support their children’s education with confidence, insisting that there is no security threat at the Federal Government Girls’ College, Monguno.
The Ministry reaffirmed its commitment to working closely with security agencies, state governments and school authorities to sustain the safety and security of all Federal Government Colleges nationwide.
The ministry however assured to continue to provide timely and accurate information through its official communication channels and advised the public to disregard the fake report in its entirety.
