Sen. Abdullahi Yahaya, former Senate Majority Leader has received the PDP Senatorial ticket to contest in the 2023 general election after decamping to PDP

The lawmaker representing Kebbi-North Senatorial District, while speaking with Newsmen in Abuja said that the defection was due to injustices by handlers of the APC in the state.
Yahaya said he left the APC because his followers in the state, who had earlier decamped before him were been denied of their rights and privileges unjustly.

The lawmaker who will now contest for the seat of Kebbi North senatorial district in 2023 under the platform of the PDP, said the winner of the ticket in his new party voluntarily withdrew for him.

“I have to leave and follow them and the person who got the ticket of the PDP willingly wrote a letter and gave up the mandate to me via the party in the guidelines and the electoral processes.

He said that the PDP in the last one week had recorded the highest membership cards issuances than it had done in the last eight years following the defections of APC members to the party.

He expressed optimism that more people will defect from the Kebbi State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) to the PDP.

Abdulllahi said he is contesting for the seat of Kebbi north senatorial district in 2023 under the platform of the PDP, saying the “holder of the ticket in the PDP voluntarily withdrew for him.

“So it is a daily activity of defection in Kebbi state, almost every day people are moving out.

“And we have candidates who will step down for more qualified people to give a successful contest to APC in the state,” he said.

Yahaya, who also commented on his role while serving as the Senate leader said he feels more comfortable taking the decision by living the APC.

I don’t have any regrets for what we have done together with the leadership of the senate and my colleagues.

“The best way to plan the institution of Senate where you have differences in political parties and loyalties is to bring people together in a by-partisan manner,” he said.

Yahaya had on June 14, resigned his position as the Senate Majority leader in a letter to the Senate after defecting to the PDP.
