The Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University Lokoja, Professor Gbenga Solomon Ibileye, on Monday presented an electric motorcycle worth N2.5 million to a staff member in his office, Bala Ibrahim, in recognition of his years of dedication and hard work.

The VC made the surprise gift in front of the University Senate Building, in the presence of other staff, describing it as part of efforts to boost staff welfare and ease transportation challenges for workers.

After the presentation, Ibileye rode with Ibrahim around the Senate Building on the new bike, in a moment staff said reflected his humility and commitment to staff motivation.

Staff who witnessed the event, including the Director, Directorate of Strategic Communication and Corporate Documentation, Dr Tosin Olagunju; the Director, Centre for Safety Management, Engr. Dr Monday Abutu Idakwo; the Deputy Registrar and Head of SERVICOM Unit, Abdulhakeen Abdulrauf Ajao; and the Executive ICT and Digital Systems Officer, Sylvester Sunday Agada, described the gesture as well-deserved and a morale booster for the university community.

They said the VC’s disposition toward staff welfare had, within a short time in office, earned him the goodwill of the university community and reinvigorated productivity among workers.

Other staff present included Chris Yahaya, in charge of Digital Media and Communication; Yakpe Tsebam and Adamu Abdullahi, both Personal Assistants to the VC; and Assistant Registrar Fabulous Manji Cishak.

Responding, Ibrahim thanked the Vice-Chancellor for the gift and what he described as his “fatherly love,” pledging to remain dedicated to his duties and supportive of the administration.

The gesture comes weeks after Ibileye, on July 20, unveiled 20 electric and solar-powered tricycles as part of the university’s push for sustainable transportation.
