The Wife of Kogi State Governor, Hajia Sefinat Usman Ododo, has emphasized the need for society to support widows and the elderly, stressing that they must not be abandoned.

Speaking at the Government House in Lokoja during an empowerment programme for widows in the state, Mrs. Ododo distributed rice, clothing, and cash gifts to 500 widows across the state’s 21 local government areas.

“Widows and the elderly are valuable members of our society, and we must not neglect them.

Their economic stability is crucial not just for their survival but for the overall growth of our nation.” She said.

The First Lady called on political office holders and well-meanwhile individuals to actively support widows, noting that government alone cannot shoulder the responsibility.

“We all have a role to play in ensuring widows are empowered through job opportunities and business support. With the right assistance, they can become self-sufficient and contribute meaningfully to society,” the First Lady stated.

Reaffirming her commitment to the cause, Mrs. Ododo assured that her office would continue to support widows and other vulnerable groups.

“My doors remain open at all times to provide assistance. We will keep working to alleviate their burdens and create opportunities for a better future,” she pledged.
