The Wife of the Governor of Kogi State, Hajiya Sefinat Usman Ododo, has extended her back-to-school empowerment initiative to six local government areas of the state, providing learning materials to thousands of pupils and students.
The intervention, carried out from September 28 to October 2, 2026, through her Ohunene Empowerment Initiative, OEI, reached 27 schools in Adavi, Bassa, Dekina, Kabba, Koton Karfe and Ogori/Magongo LGAs.
More than 3,750 items including school bags, books, shoes, water bottles, lunch bags, calculators, mathematical sets and pencil cases were distributed.

The exercise was led by the Coordinator of the Ohunene Empowerment Initiative, Mrs. Mary Agamalafiya, who represented the First Lady.
According to the First Lady’s Media Office, beneficiaries were mainly children in Nursery, Primary 2 to 4 and JSS 1 to 3, although pupils in other classes also benefited in some schools.
The breakdown shows six schools in Kabba, five in Adavi, five in Dekina, four in Bassa, four in Ogori/Magongo and three in Koton Karfe.
Some of the schools reached include St. Augustine’s College, Kabba; St. Monica’s College, Kabba; LGEA Standard Nursery/Primary School, Adavi; Government Science Secondary School, Koton Karfe; Government Science Secondary School, Magongo; and LGEA Central Primary School, Dekina, among others.
The First Lady said the initiative was aimed at easing the burden on parents and boosting the confidence of children as they return to school, noting that access to basic learning materials remains key to effective participation in school activities.
The outreach, she added, is part of ongoing interventions by the Ohunene Empowerment Initiative targeted at vulnerable groups, especially children and young people.
