The Olugbede of Gbede Kingdom, HRM Oba Colonel Olusegun Oloruntoba (rtd) says the launching of a palace for the stool of Olugbede is a dream come true as it had been his vision upon ascension to the throne of his ancestors.

Oba Oloruntoba had during his coronation on 11th June 2022 made a declaration to build the Palace of Olugbede.

But the Gbede paramount Ruler while speaking at the maiden Gbede Day and Launching of N500, 000, 000 for the building of the palace held over the weekend at Ayetoro Gbede, Ijumu Local Government Area of Kogi State, said the Launch of the palace is a milestone in the history of the Gbede people as the stool had existed for 112 years without a central palace.

In his words “Today, it gives me a great pleasure to note that we have started an important journey which in the end will pave way for the breaking of a jinx that has been with us in Gbede Kingdom in the last 112 years when the first Olugbede was installed, precisely 1912.”

While calling on friends, sons and daughters of Gbede Kingdom to support the aspiration of the Palace, the Olugbede expressed appreciation to his senior military colleagues, course mates and Honourary members of the Nigerian Defence Academy Regular Course 11 for supporting the programme handsomely.

Also speaking, the Chairman Central Planning Committee, Oba David Faleke said apart from the Launching of the Olugbede’s Palace, the programme was geared towards promoting unity in the District.

Oba Faleke, who is the Olu Iyah Gbede expressed delight over the massive turnout of Gbede people as well as Guests.

He added that the programme will be sustained so as to sustain unity and love in the District.
