Face Your Political Party Crisis and Leave INEC Chairman to Do His Job – DAI

This followed recent calls for the removal of the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission INEC, Professor Joash Amupitan SAN, but the Ijumu Development Union has rejected the calls, urging Nigerians to discard it.

President of the Union, Comrade Ahmed Ade-Fatai noted that those behind the calls are only interested in their selfish agenda which does not the will of Nigerians.

What we need is stability, continuity, and a Chairman who is allowed to finish the job he was given, that is: organizing credible, free and fair elections that will make every citizen proud, regardless of tribe, tongue, or political leaning. Removing a man of his calibre at this critical moment sends the wrong signal to the world and to our own children: that excellence can be discarded simply because the bearer belongs to a minority group.

He described the INEC Boss as a reputable lawyer, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria, a man of unquestionable character, and a distinguished academic, whose depth of knowledge in constitutional and electoral law is widely acknowledged.

The sudden cry that has risen across the land is clear and unmistakable: Professor Joash Amupitan, SAN, has not committed any sin and cannot be the sacrificial lamb of any political party or groups, who are only interested in their selfish agenda and cannot represent or reflect of the will of Nigerians. The call for the sacked of Prof. Amupitan should be discarded and thrown in the bin as those behind it are mischief makers and enemies of democracy.

According to him, Professor Amupitan was not appointed to represent any ethnic interest; but to safeguard the ballot, protect every vote, and to strengthen the trust of over 200 million Nigerians in the democratic process.

He said the INEC Chairman understands the sacred tenets of his duty which include neutrality, transparency, fairness, and unwavering commitment to the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria as amended.

Comrade Ade-Fatai explained that the entire people of Ijumu Kingdom have absolute confidence in the INEC Boss, urging him to remain focused so as to responsibly deliver the assignment at hand.

The President enjoined Prof. Amupitan not to be distracted but focus on conducting a free, fair and credible election that the nation will be proud of.

He applauded President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for believing in the truth, and expressed confidence in the INEC Chairman in delivering on the mandate of his office.
