The Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ), has cautioned some members in NAWOJ FCT Chapter against an attempt to cause anarchy in the association.

The warning is coming on the heels of the stalemated NAWOJ FCT election of Saturday, January 20, 2024, and attempts to impose an illegal caretaker committee by some people.

The national leadership of the association gave the warning in a press statement by the National Secretary, Wasila Ladan, on Wednesday, titled: RE: NAWOJ Caretaker Committee.

The statement, which was copied the Director General, Department of State Services, and the Inspector General of Police, reads: “It has come to the attention of the National Secretariat of NAWOJ that some disgruntled members of the Association have perfected plans to cause anarchy in the association, as a result of the stalemated election of Saturday, January 20, 2024.

“We wish to state as follows:

That the purported dissolution of the 2024 FCT NAWOJ Credentials Committee led by Dorcas Jonah of News Agency of Nigeria is unconstitutional, null and void.

“That the Caretaker Committee allegedly set up with Halima Jubril as Chairperson and Ruth Tene as Secretary is illegal and therefore unacceptable to NAWOJ National Secretariat.

“The duly recognised Caretaker Committee of FCT NAWOJ is the one led by Kemi Kindness of Love FM and Hadiza Ndadama of Voice of Nigeria.

“That Halima Jubril and Ruth Tene are warned to desist from impersonating the leadership of NAWOJ in the FCT forthwith. All stakeholders and security organisations are therefore to take note.”

Blueprint reports that the NUJ National Secretariat and the NUJ FCT Council were also sent copies of the statement.
