The Special Adviser to the Kogi State Governor on Youth and Student Matters, Comrade Oladele John Nihi, has charged youths in the state to look beyond white collar jobs and embrace skills that will make them self-reliant.

Nihi made this call while speaking with journalists during the Ogidi Day Festival, where he urged young people to shift their mindset from dependency to self-development.

“Time to wait for government sponsored feeding is over,” he said.

The Special Adviser advised youths to look inward and explore the numerous skill acquisition opportunities available to them rather than waiting endlessly for white collar employment.

He however, warned that not having a white collar job should not push any youth into crime.

According to him, anyone caught engaging in criminal activities would face appropriate sanctions, and urged youths to desist from activities capable of destroying their future and the peace of their communities.

As part of efforts to encourage youth empowerment, Nihi donated a motorcycle to a youth in the community to support his means of livelihood.

He also donated N500,000 in support of the Ogidi Ela Community Centre and called for support for the administration of Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo.

The gesture was widely commended by residents, who described it as a step in the right direction towards youth empowerment and community development in the area.
