Following the Chieftaincy Tussle of Obadofin of Iyamoye in Ijumu Local Government Area of Kogi State, the Ijumu Traditional Council has waded into the matter with a call on the both parties to embrace peace and follow due process in the matter.

This was part of the resolutions reached at the end of the Council meeting on the matter held on Tuesday, presided over by His Majesty, Oba Williams Olusegun Ayeni, the Olujumu of Ijumu Kingdom.

Recall that there have been disputes on the title since Chief I.B Aminu was pronounced as the Obadofin of Iyamoye by the Obaro in 2017 without consultation with Idofin family which prompted the latter that had historically occupied the post to approach the Court to seek redress.

According to investigations, the procedure that produced Chief I.B Aminu was not in accordance with the circular No. GO/LGCA/CHI/S/13/83 dated 29th April, 1992, which spell out the process of appointment of Ward, Village, District Heads, Gagos, Baales etc.

It further revealed that the Ijumu Traditional Council was not carried along in the entire procedure which is against the laid down rules of installing or appointing the Obadofin.

A Source told our Reporter that the Traditional Council had last year appealed to the Idofin family to withdraw their case on the matter in Court which they obeyed based on their belief in a peaceful resolution of the conflict.

According to the resolution of the Council, the current claimant of the Obadofin Title has been directed to stop parading himself as Obadofin of Iyamoye from henceforth until the right thing is done.

It mandates the parties involved to go back and follow due process of nominating Obadofin of Iyamoye and forward same to the Council for recommendation to the Local Government Chairman for approval.

The Council also called on the parties to be peaceful and orderly in the entire process as breakdown of law and order will not be accepted.

It added that the Council is interested in ensuring that Chieftaincy matters are handled based on equity, fairness and justice.
