The Emir of Minna in Niger State, Dr. Umar Faruk Bahago, has responded to the recent robbery attack on his palace by urging his subjects to remain calm and law-abiding.
On Tuesday evening, armed robbers invaded the palace, firing shots into the air before stealing money intended for the June salaries of emirate staff and the upkeep of the emirate. Two palace guards were injured during the incident and are currently receiving treatment at Minna General Hospital.
The Emir of Minna, Dr. Umar Bahago, conveyed his message through the Ajiyan Minna, Alhaji Ilyasu Abubakar Dhacko. He encouraged his subjects to continue their lawful activities without fear, assuring them that security agencies in the state have already initiated an investigation into the incident. In a statement released on his behalf by his Chief Press Secretary, Bologi Ibrahim, the Emir expressed his administration’s determination not to tolerate such acts. He called on the security agencies to apprehend the criminals responsible for the robbery and ensure they face prosecution.

The State Police Command provided initial details, stating that a gang of approximately five armed robbers trailed the Minna palace cashier from a commercial bank after he withdrew a sum of money. The robbers blocked the cashier at the palace gate, fired gunshots, forcibly took the money, and fled the scene. The cashier is currently undergoing interrogation at the Police Area Command office in Minna to gather more information about the incident.
The Emir of Minna expressed his sympathy for the injured palace guards and requested prayers for their swift recovery.
He assured the staff of the emirate that the payment of their salaries would be resolved promptly.
Governor Mohammed Umar Bago echoed similar sentiments, describing the incident as highly unfortunate, especially within the state capital and the Emir’s Palace.
He reiterated his commitment to pursuing the criminals and ensuring justice is served.
The exact amount of money stolen by the robbers is yet to be ascertain.
