Less than a month to the forthcoming Local Government Election in Kogi State, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Olamaboro local government chapter, has suspended its chairman, Hon Yakubu Mohammed, alias OC.

Yakubu suspension was announced at the extraordinary meeting of the Olamaboro LG PDP executive meeting at party Secretariat in Okpo on Monday.

After deliberations, the party executives decided to suspend the local government party chairman over allegations of gross misconduct and anti party activities.

The decision was reached by an overwhelming resolution supported by 8 out of 10 ward chairmen and 12 out of 16 local government executive.

This is sequel to his refusal to honor the invitation sent to him on 16 September 2024 by LG party executive to defend allegations levelled against him, which he was notified of in same letter.

The allegation leveled against Yakubu read in part;

“That you, Mallam Yakubu Mohammed on the 29th day of July, 2024 did sign a document along with other persons claiming that a Ward 3-man Adhoc delegate congress was held in Olamaboro LGA on the 27th day of July, 2024 and that the said congress was free, fair and transparent knowing fully well that your claim is false, fraudulent and had no backing of ward chairmen, leaders and LGA Executives Olamaboro LGA contrary to section 58(1) of the PDP constitution 2017 as amended which you know is likely and has actually caused disaffection among the party members which is an offence under the party constitution and therefore sanctionable.

“That you, Mallam Yakubu Mohammed sometime in August 2024 collected the sum of N500,000 only from Mr. Idoko Ilonah for the development of the party in Olamaboro LGA but you diverted and converted it for your personal use without disclosing same to the party.”

Also, a 7-man disciplinary committee, as required by the party constitution, has been set up to avail suspended Yakubu opportunity to defend himself.

In order to avoid a vacuum, the LG exco decided to appoint Mr. John Idakpo, as the acting local government Chairman, pending the report of the disciplinary committee.

Idakpo was the Olamaboro Ward 3 PDP chairman until his appointment as Local Government Party Chairman.
