The Kogi State Project Coordinator of Livestock Productivity and Resilience Support Project, (L- PRES), Dr. Olufemi Bolarin, has charged the people of Okun land and the entire state to take advantage of potentials that abound in the livestock sector to improve their income and livelihood.
Dr Bolarin gave the charge on Tuesday during a stakeholders engagement with traditional rulers in Okun land.
Speaking at the palace of Obaro of Kabba, His Royal Majesty Oba Solomon Owoniyi, the L-PRES state project coordinator, said they were in the palace to intimate the people of Okun land through the traditional institution the opportunities in L-PRES that the people can harness in the area of livestock farming.
He pointed out that L-PRES which is a world bank project in collaboration with the federal government and supported by the Kogi State Government has empowered 500 women and youth to boost poultry production in the state.

Dr Bolarin revealed that the world bank has given a large sum of money to be spent to help the people improve their level of livestock production in the state.
According to him “We are here in the palace of Obaro to intimate the traditional rulers that we will soon commence distribution of inputs to the 500 carefully selected poultry farmers.
“L-PRES will offer Day Old Chicks (DOCs), feeds, drugs and vaccines as input for beneficiaries of broiler production while those in egg production get Point of Lay (POL), feeds and drugs.
“Also the beneficiaries in the marketing and processing, will also get preservation equipment (deep freezer), Generator set, stabilizer, table size broiler birds and packaging bags to enhance their businesses”.
He further disclosed that there are avenues for every interested body to benefit from the programme, noting that aside from poultry farming, L-PRES would also support people raring goats, sheep and cow.

Responding , the Obaro of Kabba Oba Solomon Owoniyi, commended the federal government and the Kogi state government for uplifting livestock farming in the state, assuring that the traditional institution in Okun land would continue to give their support for the success of the project.
The Okun Paramount Ruler, who lamented that the cost of animal feeds especially poultry which he said was becoming too high, solicited for the attention of L-PRES in the direction.
He promised that the existing peace in Okun land would be sustained to enable the people of the Western Senatorial District to do their businesses without any hindrance.
