The Minister of Education, Dr. Maruf Tunji Alausa, joined Nigerian children in celebrating Children’s Day 2026, reaffirming the Federal Government’s commitment to nurturing, protecting, and empowering every child through inclusive and quality education.
In a statement signed by Special Adviser (Media and Communications) to the Minister, Ikharo Attah, Alausa stated this, while hosting young disability advocate and actress, Dera Osadebe, at the Federal Ministry of Education Headquarters in Abuja.
As part of the celebration, the Ministry brought together children from different schools and backgrounds across Nigeria in a symbolic engagement aimed at amplifying the voices of Nigerian children and strengthening national commitment to inclusive education and child development.
Speaking during the event, Dr. Alausa described Children’s Day as a reminder of the nation’s shared responsibility to safeguard the future of every Nigerian child through sustained investment in education, wellbeing, and opportunity.
“Today is about celebrating the strength, creativity, and limitless potential of our children. Every Nigerian child deserves to feel seen, heard, encouraged, and supported to achieve their dreams regardless of background or circumstance,” he said.
The Minister commended Dera Osadebe for her advocacy and growing efforts in promoting awareness, compassion, and inclusion for children living with disabilities and autism across Nigeria.
“Dera’s courage and passion reflect the resilience and brilliance that exist in millions of Nigerian children. Her voice continues to inspire important conversations around inclusion, empathy, and equal opportunity for every child,” he added.
The Minister noted that the Children’s Day celebration reflects the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, which prioritises child development, inclusive education, youth empowerment, and expanded access to quality learning opportunities across the country.
Dr. Alausa encouraged Nigerian children to continue believing in themselves, developing their talents, and contributing positively to society, while assuring them of government’s continued support in creating enabling environments for learning and growth.
“Children are at the heart of our nation’s future, and we must continue to create opportunities that allow them to learn, grow, and succeed,” he stated.
The Federal Ministry of Education reaffirms its unwavering commitment to protecting the rights and wellbeing of every Nigerian child and to advancing policies and programmes that promote inclusive education, safe learning environments, equal opportunities, and a brighter and more hopeful future for all children across the country.
