In response to the evolving realities of the communications and media industry, the Department of Mass Communication, Kogi State University, in partnership with Kogi State University Innovation and Entrepreneurship Hub (KIEH), organised the first-of-its-kind Mediapreneurship Pitch-a-Thon.

The event featured five teams pitching innovative media ideas aimed at solving real-world problems within the community, on campus, and in the digital space.

As a mark of support to the initiative, the Vice Chancellor, Prof. K.I.T. Eniola, fNSM, made a cash donation of one hundred thousand naira for the first, second and third places — N50,000, N30,000, and N20,000 respectively, noting that the department uniquely keyed into the entrepreneurial drive of the university where innovators can make fortunes by solving problems using the knowledge acquired in their own fields.

The course facilitator, Mrs. Opeyemi Ologun, in her remarks, emphasised that the Mediapreneurship Pitch-a-Thon was designed to foster a culture of innovation and enterprise. “Theory alone cannot build the future,” she stated. She expressed appreciation to the Vice Chancellor and his management team for their continued support of the department since inception.

Dr. Fanisi Babatunde, Director of KIEH, stressed the importance of innovation and competitiveness among students. He affirmed the KIEH’s commitment to nurturing creativity within the university community and announced that the winning groups would receive free business name registration with SMEDAN and a one-year mentorship programme.

Other notable members of the department present at the event included Dr. Olubunmi Agbana, Mr. S. Awodi, and Mr. Tade Oshaloto.
