SMEF Advertorial: Clarification on Driver and Conductor Badges
Sanity Multi-Efforts Forum (SMEF) reminds all stakeholders that:
Driver Badges are required for commercial and corporate vehicle drivers.
Conductor Badges are for commercial and corporate vehicle conductors or motor workers.
Badges are data-coded, one-off items, replaceable only when lost or damaged.
Annual licenses carry data-coded information in badges, valid for a calendar year from issue date.
Important Legal Notes:
It’s illegal to issue Driver and Conductor Badges info together in a license.
Combining driver and conductor into a single badge is illegal.
Issuing badge licenses without the owner having a badge is illegal.
Owners of genuine badges and licenses must use badges conspicuously; refusal is an offence.
For Transporters (Road Users):
Obtain separate badges for drivers and conductors, as required by law.
Ensure staff comply with regulations to avoid penalties.
SMEF provides guidance and support for compliance.
For Government Enforcement Agencies (VIO and Traffic Management Authority):
– Note Driver and Conductor Badges are separate entities.
– Enforce regulations fairly, support SMEF’s sensitization efforts.
– Collaborate with SMEF to promote professionalism and safety.
We remind all stakeholders of the importance of adhering to Road Traffic Regulations. As part of our mandate to promote professionalism and safety, we’re highlighting the distinction between Driver and Conductor Badges.
