The Deputy Governor of Kano State, Comrade Abdulsalam Aminu Gwarzo, has resigned from his position.
The spokesperson of the Kwankwasiyya political movement, Habibu Sale Mohammed, confirmed the development exclusively to an AIT correspondent in Kano via telephone.
He explained that the resignation was taken in the best interest of the state, in order to prevent further political tension and avoid overheating the polity.
According to him, the decision is aimed at ensuring peace and allowing the government to function effectively in delivering its responsibilities to the people of Kano State.
The resignation also comes amid rising political pressure and reported moves by the Kano State House of Assembly to initiate impeachment proceedings against the deputy governor over allegations of misconduct.
The Kwankwasiyya spokesperson stressed that the resignation does not in any way imply acceptance of the allegations leveled against Abdulsalam Gwarzo by the State Assembly.
He added that as a staunch member and leader of the Kwankwasiyya movement, the former deputy governor will now focus on strengthening the political structure and repositioning the movement ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Habibu Mohammed further confirmed that Abdulsalam Gwarzo is expected to contest in the 2027 elections, noting that his resignation will give him more time to strategize and engage politically.
Efforts to reach the spokesperson to the Kano State Governor, Sanusi Bature, were unsuccessful at the time of filing this report, as he was reportedly attending the funeral of his elder brother earlier today.
This development is also linked to recent political realignments in the state, following reports that the deputy governor declined to follow his principal in a proposed move to the All-Progressives Congress
