The 36 Political Elevation Group (36 PEG) has thrown its weight behind Hon. Bashir Omolaja Bolarinwa (BOB) as the best candidate for Kwara State’s next governor under the platform of APC. Zoning Should Not Override Competence, Unity, and Electoral Victory.

In a statement, 36 PEG President, Prince Dan Olaitan Dada said Bolarinwa’s candidacy is not about zoning, but about competence and the ability to win elections. “The Nigerian constitution and the APC constitution do not mandate zoning for gubernatorial tickets. What they emphasize is internal democracy, merit, and the ability to win elections,” Prince Dan said.

The group responded to a recent communique by the APC Elders Caucus in Kwara Central, cautioning against zoning the 2027 governorship ticket to Kwara South, saying the caucus’s stance misses the bigger picture. “The party’s success in 2019 and 2023 was built on competence, unity, and people-driven mobilization, not rigid zoning,” 36 PEG President said.

Bolarinwa, a PhD holder and former Kwara APC State Chairman has demonstrated his ability to unify the party and deliver electoral victories. His pedigree includes serving as Chairman of Lagos Mainland Local Government, Member of the House of Representatives, and Chairman of the National Broadcasting Commission (NBC) Governing Board.

“The APC leadership at both state and national levels should allow a transparent, merit-driven process – whether through consensus among genuine stakeholders or open primaries,” Prince Dan urged. “Threatening resistance or predicting doom for supporting a qualified aspirant from Kwara South does little to promote the cohesiveness the Elders claim to cherish.”

The 36 PEG emphasized that Kwara’s progress should not be held hostage by narrow zonal calculations. “Let the best hand for Kwara win – the one who can command the widest acceptance and guarantee victory. BOB has earned serious consideration through service and sacrifice,” Prince Dan said.

The group called on APC members and supporters to rally behind Bolarinwa’s candidacy, saying he is the best fit to lead Kwara State to greater heights.
