The Minister of State for Education, Professor Suwaiba Ahmad, has expressed satisfaction with the conduct of the 2026 National Common Entrance Examination across centres visited in Abuja.

The Minister, who monitored the exercise at Model Secondary School Maitama, Government Technical College Garki, and Federal Government Boys College Apo, said candidates were orderly, properly seated, and commenced the examination on schedule.

Professor Ahmad noted that registration records showed compliance with the approved age requirement of 10 to 12 years, while adequate invigilators and well-organised examination halls ensured a smooth process.

She, however, raised concerns over the number of absent candidates recorded in some centres, revealing that one examination hall had as many as 18 candidates missing. She said the ministry would investigate the factors responsible.

The Minister reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to improving infrastructure in schools nationwide, stressing that efforts are ongoing to provide a conducive environment for teaching and learning.

Meanwhile, NECO Registrar, Professor Dantani Wushishi, disclosed that 58,187 candidates registered for the 2026 examination. He noted that female candidates outnumbered their male counterparts, describing the development as a positive sign of progress in promoting girls’ education across the country.
