Kogi State Commissioner of Education, Science and Technology, Hon. Wemi Jones says he is excited that the State is getting Education right with the recent approval of 65years retirement age for teachers in tbe State.
The Federal Government had commenced the implementation of the 65 years retirement age and 40 years of pensionable service for teachers.
But Hon. Jones while reacting to the approval of the new retirement age for Teachers by the State Executive Council, said teachers in the State will now spend 40yrs instead of 35yrs.
According to him, the move is a demonstration of Governor Yahaya Bello’s political will to bring the needed change to the education sector.
He stated that there are teachers who are more than 60 years that have experience to contribute to the development of education in the State as government cannot afford to lose it.
Hon. Jones noted that to domesticate the retirement age, a bill backing it up would soon be sent to the State House of Assembly to give it legal backing.
The Commissioner described the approval of counterpart fund for Adolescent Girls Initiative (AGILE), a World Bank support Project as a welcome development, saying Kogi is lucky to be part of the 7 pilot States.
