The Action Alliance (AA) candidate for the November 11 governorship election in Kogi State, Mr Olayinka Braimoh has congratulated the people of Iyamoye Community on the celebration of this year’s New Yam Festival otherwise known as Emidin Day. The annual festival holds every June 26.
In a statement from his campaign office in Lokoja, Braimoh stated: “I heartily rejoice with the Obaro of Iyamoye, Oba Ibrahim Ademiluyi Momoh, Ariwajoye 1, his Council of Chiefs and the entire good people of the community on the celebration of this year’s Emidin Day, 2023. I wish the community increased prosperity, peace, love and harmony”.
“It will interest you to know that the Emidin festival and the New Yam Celebration it represents falls within my wealth creation, distribution and retention Plan encapsulated in my STAT (Solid Mineral, Tourism, Agriculture and Trade) Agenda.
“Yam, which is the king of crops, is grown by farmers and with the support of government, it can bring prosperity to the people. Cultivation of yam in commercial quantity can create employment opportunities and bring profit good enough to create wealth for the farmers.
Nigeria and Ghana are the major exporters of yam and this contributes, in no small measure, to the GDP of these countries. On the other hand, celebration of New Yam Festival is part of my cultural tourism agenda. I was recently at Ogidi Cultural Day where, just like Iyamoye, celebration of New Yam festival also held. From these celebrations, I am developing a new concept about our tourism, trade potentials, export of produce to empower our farmers and locate our traders in the global produce market.
“When I become governor in November, my administration will develop all our tourist locations and cultural heritages to international standard and we will direct tourist traffic to our state. Once again, congratulations to Iyamoye community. Àsèyí sàmódún o”.
Iyamoye is a community in Ijumu LGA of Kogi State. The people of the town are predominantly farmers and their town forms a business hub for other neighbouring communities because of her vantaged location. It shares boundaries with Ekiti and Ondo States.
