The 36 Political Elevation Group (36 PEG), a non-partisan civic platform active across Nigeria’s 36 states and the FCT, today commended the conduct and service record of Kogi State Deputy Governor, Comrade Joel Salifu, describing him as a rare example of loyalty to governance and commitment to the people.

Why 36 PEG Is Speaking Out
Most deputy governors in Nigeria go unrecognized for their contributions, often overshadowed by the politics of succession and rancour. In Kogi, Comrade Joel Salifu has chosen a different path since assuming office on 27 January 2024.
As President of 36 PEG, I have reviewed his record and find it worth celebrating. His consistent message has been service over ambition. In his words: “I have no aspirations beyond supporting my principal… I caution against excessive ambition, which can lead to loss of direction and focus due to greed and overzealousness.”
This is the political culture we at 36 PEG have been advocating for nationwide.
His Record Speaks
1. Loyalty to the Mandate.
Comrade Salifu has remained a stabilizing force in the Ododo administration. He has publicly backed the “Advance New Direction Agenda” and consistently praised the governor’s work on security, infrastructure, and civil service reforms. In a system where deputy governors often become rivals, his loyalty stands out.
2. Grassroots Mobilization.
In May 2026, he hosted a reception in Ejule, Ofu LGA, where over 600 members of PDP, SDP and other parties defected to the APC. Traditional rulers commended him for “loyalty, humility and representation of the Ofu people.” He has become a bridge between government and the grassroots in Kogi East.
3. People-Focused Governance.
He has spoken and acted on key issues affecting citizens: addressing insecurity in Omala LGA, supporting the implementation of the ₦72,500 minimum wage, and rolling out periodic palliatives to cushion economic hardship. He has also called on teachers, religious leaders and civil society to partner with government for progress.
4. Communication and Accountability.
When allegations were raised against him in May 2025, his office responded swiftly with facts, clarifying he was on official duty outside the state. This shows a commitment to transparency and managing public perception responsibly.

1. Reform Political Culture – Promote issue-based politics over personal battles.
2. Advance Dialogue & Conflict Resolution – Facilitate conversations that prevent post-election violence.
3. Promote Civic Accountability – Mobilize citizens to demand unity plus delivery.
4. Strengthen National Cohesion – Push the principle of “state over ego.”

Our Call
We urge political actors across Nigeria to study Kogi’s example. Loyalty, humility and service are not weaknesses. They are the foundation of stable governance and public trust.
