The Chairman of Ijumu Local Government Area, Alh. Haruna Ibrahim says it is time for the people of the Local Government to be united in the fight against insecurity.
Alh. Haruna made the assertion at the meeting organised by Ijumu Consultative Forum at the Palace of the Olujumu of Ijumu Kingdom, Iyara.
The Chairman said fighting security challenges is not the responsibility of the Political Party in Power and should be seen as a collective responsibility.
He expressed appreciation to the people of Ijumu Kingdom for their support and words of encouragement during the close down of the Cattle Market in Iyara, expressing his determination to the safety of the lives and property of the people.
Alh. Haruna maintained that the Market remains closed down as the committee set up by him to look into the matter, pointing out that his administration will not compromise the security of the people.
According to him, flashpoints of security threats have been identified and his administration in collaboration with security agents are working hard to nip the challenge in the bud.
Alh. Haruna added that the feat achieved in the Security Sector of the Local Government was as a result of the cooperation and support given to Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo.
Also Speaking, the Asiwaju of Ijumu Kingdom, Chief Emmanuel Otitoju expressed delight over the consistency of the meeting despite the security challenges bedeviling the country.
Chief Otitoju stated that making security a top agenda of the meeting is commendable and timely as efforts being made by government to protect lives and property is yet to achieve the desired result.
On his part, the Olujumu of Ijumu Kingdom, Oba Williams Olusegun Ayeni said the recent closure of the Cattle Market was occasioned by the increasing spate of kidnapping especially in Iyara, the Local Government headquarters.
Oba Ayeni bemoaned the level of deforestation in the Local Government which calls for concern of everyone, saying that he is worried about land dispute and Chieftaincy tussles.
In her remarks, the member representing Ijumu Constituency, Hon. Omotayo Adeleye Ishaya advocated lasting solution for tackling insecurity.
Chairman Governing Council Federal University of Education, Pankshin, Hon. Funsho Olumoko, who was moved with compassion on the issue of security challenges the Ijumu Traditional Rulers and all faiths to do everything humanly possible to tackle the menace.
