Iyah Gbede Celebrates Annual Day As Prof. Amupitan Tasks Communities on Love, Unity, Togetherness

Communities in Kogi State have been urged to embrace love, unity, and togetherness for it to witness peace and remarkable development.

A Guest Speaker, Prof. Joash Amupitan at the 2023 Iyah Gbede Day and Fund Raising at the weekend in Iyah Gbede, Ijumu Local Government Area of Kogi State.

Prof. Amupitan, who spoke on the topic, “Imbibing the Spirit of Togetherness: A Community Development Effort,” said all and sundry must come together with unity of purpose for the Community to develop.

According to him, developing a community is a collective effort, pointing out that everyone must play their roles to make the founding fathers of various communities proud.

He stated that one of the reasons for the increased rate of suicide is a lack of togetherness, stressing the need for teamwork as well sustenance of self community development effort that the Community is known for.

National President of Iyah Gbede Development Association (IDA), Dr. Emmanuel Jeminiwa said the lack of basic amenities necessitated the age-long event, noting that the present economic hardship in the country has made things difficult, hence the annual Iyah Gbede Day.

According to Dr. Jeminiwa, “It is unimaginable that a community that once housed the premiere educational institution in the entire Gbede Kingdom as far back as 1938 and her citizens eminently found in the Military, Air force, Navy, Police, Business Administration, Engineering, Medicine, banking etc, still lack most of her basic needs.”

The National President called on Government to give more attention to the development of the Community which is in dire need of development in the area of erosion control, completion of a multipurpose hall, health centre, educational infrastructure, water, and improved electricity supply.

Olujumu of Ijumu Kingdom, Oba Williams Olusegun Ayeni described the ceremony as eventful, urging other communities to emulate the promotion of their culture and traditions.

The Governorship Candidate of Action Alliance (AA), Otunba Olayinka Braimoh congratulated Olu Iyah Gbede, Oba Faleke, and the people of the community, stating that he is on an assignment to create and distribute wealth in the State.

Otunba Braimoh solicited the support of the electorate in the Community for his aspiration aimed at rescuing the State from poverty with his STAT Agenda.

 

The ceremony was attended by Arc. Salman Idris, member representing Kabba/Bunu/Ijumu Federal Constituency, Chief Funmilayo Bodunde, and wife of the AA Gubernatorial Candidate, Engr. Adetutu Braimoh among others.
