The Kogi State Adolescent Girls’ Initiative for Learning and Empowerment (AGILE) project has taken a significant step in strengthening its Grievance Redress Mechanism (GRM) by training government-owned school principals on how to receive, process, and resolve grievances within their schools.
The capacity-building training was held at Saint Augustine, Kabba, marking the first day of a comprehensive training session for School Grievance Redress Committees (SGRCs). The training aimed to equip school administrators with the necessary knowledge and tools to address grievances effectively, ensuring that students, teachers, and stakeholders have a structured avenue for complaints and conflict resolution.

In his keynote address, Dr. Abdulhakeem Bello, the Project Coordinator of Kogi AGILE, highlighted the importance of grievance redress in the successful implementation of AGILE. He emphasized that an effective GRM ensures accountability, promotes inclusivity, and builds trust within the education system.
The participants were privileged to receive insights from two experienced resource persons:
Mr. Inah Husseni, who provided practical knowledge on Gender-Based Violence (GBV) and the need for a safe, supportive learning environment for girls.
Mr. Mark Olufemi, who delivered a detailed session on Grievance Redress Mechanism (GRM), outlining best practices for handling complaints, tracking cases, and ensuring timely resolution.
To support the principals in implementing the grievance redress system, Kogi AGILE provided:
Training manuals to serve as reference materials, case registers to document complaints and their resolution processes. and GRM complaint boxes with detailed instructions for setting up and using them in their respective schools.
The training is part of Kogi AGILE’s broader efforts to improve school governance, inclusivity, and accountability, ensuring that every student especially adolescent girls has access to a safe, grievance-free learning environment.
