Kogi State Government said it would do everything humanly possible to make sure that schools in the State enjoyed safety and violence free environment.
The State Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Hon. Wemi Jones made this known at a synergy meeting on Safety, Security and Violence free Schools in the state.
The Commissioner who noted the importance of the Safe School Initiative of the Federal Government, stated that despite the facts that the State has enjoyed relative peace in regards to safety of Schools as compare to some states in the North, everything would be put in place to ensure that no School in the State experienced any security breach.
He thanked the Officers and Men of Nigerian Security and Civil Defense Corp, ( NSCDC ) Kogi State Command for their services to Kogi State in terms of Safety of Schools, adding that the State needed their security prowess to properly secured public and private schools across the length and breath of Kogi State.
Speaking, the Head of Operation, Deputy Commandant Adesina M.O of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defense Corp, Kogi State Command called on the people to be security conscious, saying that security is everybody’s business.
According to him, the difference between the Security Agents and the People is that the security agents were trained to bear arms, noting that no security architecture can function well without information from the people.
He called on people to provide the needed information to Security Agents to enable them secured the Lives and Property of the people, saying that the NSCDC would not handle security issues with levity.
In her remarks, the Director Educational Planning, Research and Statistics ( DEPRS) Kogi State Ministry of Education, Science and Technology, Dr. Animoku Ahman Elizabeth said Safety of Schools involved Safety of learners to access to Education and enjoy the learning environment.
She called on security Agents to assist the Ministry in steming the tide of all forms of violence in Schools.
