All is now set for the official commissioning of the newly established Nigeria Police Division in Iluke, the first of its kind in Bunuland, Kabba/Bunu Local Government Area.
This was announced by the State Security Adviser to the Kogi State Government, Commander Jerry Omodara (rtd), while speaking with newsmen on Monday evening after a meeting with the Commissioner of Police, Kogi State Command, CP Naziru Bello Kankarofi, psc, mni.
Commander Omodara said the commissioning has been scheduled for Thursday, 10th September, 2026.
He disclosed that some other senior officers from the Nigeria Police Force will accompany the Commissioner of Police to Iluke for the historic event.
In recognition of his contribution towards the establishment of the Division, a prominent and proud son of Bunuland, Prof. Etannibi Alemika, has been given the honor to commission the new police station.
The Security Adviser emphasized that he is working tirelessly to ensure that police outposts are opened under the new Division, especially in communities such as Odo-Ape, Olle, and Akutupa-Kiri. He called on sons and daughters of Bunuland both at home and in the diaspora to join hands with the government in revitalizing the old police outposts in the three communities mentioned.
Commander Omodara also noted that efforts are already in place to upgrade the Outpost in Edumo Bunu to a full-fledged police station, assuring that the Ododo-led administration remains committed to bringing security closer to the grassroots, so that no community in Bunu will be left behind.
“With the new Division in Iluke, and more outposts coming up across Bunuland, we are determined to make our land safe for farming, business, and peaceful living,” he said.
“This is a prelude to the official opening of the Nigerian Army Forward Operating Base in Iluke on a date to be announced soon,” Omodara stated.
According to the Commander, the establishment of the police Division marks “a new rebirth for Bunu and environs” in line with the security concerns of the administration of Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo for Bunuland.
Commander Omodara expressed appreciation to the traditional ruler of Iluke community, HRH Oba L.F Ayinmiro, the Olu of Iluke Bunu, and other prominent sons and daughters of Iluke and Bunu who made silent but significant contributions towards the approval and establishment of the police station by the Inspector General of Police.
He equally thanked the Inspector General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, psc, for his great support and commitment towards the realization of the project.
“The people of Bunu can now sleep with both eyes closed. With the police Division and the forthcoming army base, we are building a strong security architecture that will protect lives, property, and boost economic activities in our land,” Omodara added.
He called on residents of Iluke and surrounding communities to cooperate with security agencies and give them all necessary support to succeed.
The commissioning is expected to draw dignitaries, traditional rulers, government officials, and stakeholders from across Kogi State.
