Prince Abubakar Audu University (PAAU), Anyigba, has appointed a retired Chief Superintendent of Police, Israel Sanni Ayegba, as its new Chief Security Coordinator (CSC), following the adoption of a committee report on the June 11, 2026 security breach on campus.
The appointment, approved by the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Salisu Ogbo Usman, takes immediate effect and follows Management’s decision at its 403rd Regular Meeting held on Monday, June 29, 2026, to implement the Committee’s recommendations for a comprehensive restructuring of the University’s security architecture.
The restructuring is aimed at strengthening intelligence gathering, improving security coordination, and preventing future breaches on campus. CSP Ayegba becomes only the second Chief Security Coordinator in the University’s history, following Major M. J. Adama (rtd).
As part of the new arrangement, the Chief Security Officer, Mr Emmanuel Onuh Attah, will now report directly to the Chief Security Coordinator on all matters relating to the day-to-day management of campus security.
The new CSC is expected to develop a comprehensive security framework for the University, advise Management on security policies and strategies, and coordinate operations to ensure greater efficiency and effectiveness across the institution’s security system.
CSP Ayegba brings over 35 years of experience in the Nigeria Police Force, spanning intelligence gathering, crime prevention, law enforcement, conflict management, and security administration.
He served as Divisional Police Officer in several strategic divisions, including Obajana, Ankpa, Ogorimagongo, Wukari, Gembu, and Karim Lamido, and was previously a Criminal Records and Intelligence Officer attached to the Senate Chamber at the National Assembly.
He also served as Personal Aide to two former Inspectors-General of Police, Alhaji Aliyu Attah and Alhaji Ibrahim Coomassie.
He participated in the African Union Peacekeeping Mission in Darfur, Sudan, where he received advanced international training in peacekeeping and security operations.
He holds a Master’s degree in Peace and Conflict Studies from Federal University Lokoja, a Bachelor’s degree in Criminology and Security Studies from Kwararafa University, Wukari, and a Diploma in Public Administration.
Expressing confidence in the appointment, Professor Usman said Ayegba’s wealth of experience would significantly enhance the University’s security system through intelligence-led policing, proactive surveillance, effective stakeholder engagement, and stronger collaboration with security agencies.
The Vice-Chancellor reaffirmed Management’s commitment to far-reaching security reforms to safeguard lives and property while preserving the University’s academic reputation. He urged students to shun cultism and other criminal activities and to cooperate fully with the renewed security framework.
Management also called on staff, students, and the entire University community to extend full support to the new Chief Security Coordinator in the discharge of his duties.
