A powerful delegation of monarchs from the Okun Area Traditional Council thronged the ancient palace of the Ooni of Ife at the weekend, as pomp and pageantry took over Ile-Ife for the christening of the royal twins born to His Imperial Majesty, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi, Ojaja II.
Leading the delegation was the Obaro of Kabba and Chairman of the Council, HRM Oba Solomon Dele Owoniyi, who journeyed to the cradle of Yoruba civilisation alongside fellow first-class and second-class monarchs from Okun land to celebrate with the revered Yoruba monarch.

The historic ceremony, held at the Ooni’s palace, drew dignitaries from far and wide, with drums, dance and traditional chants heralding the arrival of the twins born to Olori Mariam Anako-Ogunwusi, a proud daughter of Kogi State, who put to bed in the United States.
Joining the Obaro on the solemn but joyous outing were HRM Oba Williams Olusegun Ayeni, the Olujumu of Ijumu Kingdom and Chairman of the Ijumu Local Government Traditional Council; HRM Oba Muyiwa Ibeun, the Elulu of Mopa; HRM Olu Anthony Bamigbaiye Idowu, the Olu Adde of Ekinrin Adde; HRM Oba Funsho Ayeni, the Elejuku of Ejuku; HRH Oba Lateef Folorunsho, the Olu of Ayegunle Gbede and Oba Solomon Olugbenga Oloyede Olusin of Isanlu Isin kwara state.
Beyond the celebration, observers say the visit carried deep symbolic weight — a re-affirmation of the Okun nation’s ancestral ties to Ile-Ife, and a fresh demonstration of the warm, enduring bond between the Ooni’s throne and the Okun traditional institution.
Speaking on behalf of the delegation, the Obaro extended warm felicitations to the Ooni over the arrival of his “bundles of joy,” declaring that the entire Okun nation shared in his joy. He described Oba Ogunwusi as a monarch of rare humility and global repute, whom he holds in the highest esteem as a role model to royal fathers everywhere.
Oba Owoniyi also turned his goodwill toward Olori Mariam Anako-Ogunwusi, celebrating her double delivery as a moment of double pride for Kogi State, and hailing her as a worthy ambassador of the state within the Ife royal household.
