Kogi State Commissioner of Environment and Ecological Management, Engineer Joseph Oluwasegun says the State Agency for Climate Change will tackle ecological challenges bedeviling the State.
The Commissioner state this at an exercise to commemorate this year’s World Environment Day with the theme “Ending Plastic Pollution” in Lokoja.
Every June fifth is celebrated across the globe as World Environment Day, a Day set aside by the United Nations to bring together millions of people across the globe to safeguard and restore the planet, empower governments, businesses, communities and individuals to drive sustainable change in the environment.

The Commissioner, Engineer Joseph Oluwasegun while addressing Journalists in Lokoja said the establishment of Kogi State Agency for Climate Change is a calculative attempt by the Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo led administration in addressing Ecological challenges.

Engineer Oluwasegun noted that in demonstrating its political will, the State Government had engaged the service of a Consultant who has identified over three hundred sites with ecological degradation across the State.
The Commissioner noted that the Ministry has intensified effort in embarking on aggressive Sensitization ahead of the predicted flood, calling on people living along flood prone areas to relocate to higher ground.
According to him, to provide a lasting solution to the annual flood challenge, the Federal Government must see the need to build dams in the State to reduce the effect of the disaster.
He praised the Governor for being responsive to environmental issues, assuring that the Ministry will continue to work hard to make the State Clean.
