The Kogi State Signage and Advertisement Agency, KOSSAA, has warned political parties, supporters and their agents against the destruction and defacement of political billboards, posters and campaign materials across the state.

The General Manager of the Agency, Hon. Richard Osaseyi, issued the warning in Lokoja following reports of attacks on campaign materials ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Osaseyi said political rivalry must not degenerate into vandalism, intimidation or thuggery, stressing that every party has the right to campaign peacefully.

He spoke against the backdrop of two recent incidents. On October 3, 2026, the African Democratic Congress, ADC, alleged that its candidates for Kogi West Senatorial District and Lokoja/Kogi Federal Constituency were attacked at Gegu-Beki in Koton Karfe, with campaign vehicles and materials destroyed.

ADC State Chairman, Hon. Tom Zakari, alleged that suspected APC sympathisers were behind the attack, and called on security agencies to investigate.

Similarly, the group De-Group Kogi West O’Clock claimed that its delegates were intimidated and their banners destroyed at a power-rotation summit in Lokoja. The allegation was made by its spokesman, Barr. Shaba Ibrahim.

KOSSAA said no individual or group has the right to destroy legally displayed campaign materials because of political differences.

The Agency noted that its position aligns with earlier warnings by INEC and the Nigeria Police Force that destruction of campaign materials is unlawful and punishable.

Osaseyi urged political parties and their supporters to embrace issue-based campaigns, respect opposing views and allow all lawful voices to be heard.

He also called on security agencies to objectively investigate reported incidents and bring perpetrators to justice regardless of party affiliation, adding that the Agency will continue to regulate outdoor advertising and enforce signage laws in the state.
