case that has stunned residents of Anambra State, an 18-year-old apprentice has allegedly impregnated at least ten girls within a span of five months — including his master’s daughter and a local salesgirl.

The shocking revelation was made by the Commissioner for Women and Social Welfare, Ify Obinabo, during a press briefing earlier this week. The young man, whose name has been withheld due to the sensitivity of the case, is said to have been working as an apprentice under a local tradesman in the state.

Obinabo disclosed that the ministry became aware of the situation after several concerned parents came forward, suspecting the teenager’s involvement with their daughters. Further investigations reportedly confirmed that multiple girls, most of them minors, are pregnant — all allegedly linked to the same individual.

“The situation is deeply troubling. We are dealing with a case of potential child exploitation and abuse. The ministry will ensure all affected girls receive the medical and psychological support they need,” Obinabo said.

Among those allegedly impregnated is the daughter of the apprentice’s master — a development that has reportedly led to tension in the local community. Another victim, a salesgirl in the area, is also said to be pregnant and underage.

The case has sparked outrage and concern over the lack of supervision and moral guidance for young people in some apprenticeship systems. Authorities say the boy has been taken into custody for questioning, and investigations are ongoing to determine the full scope of the matter and whether legal charges will follow.

Commissioner Obinabo emphasized the importance of parental responsibility and community vigilance, calling on guardians and vocational trainers to be more proactive in monitoring the behavior of youths under their care.

“This is not just a legal issue — it’s a moral wake-up call,” she concluded.
