Twelve-year-old singing sensation, Ice King Ochacho, son of Adah Mohammed Usman, has been described as one of the rarest young talents in Nigeria’s music scene today, with a sound and delivery that belie his age.
The commendation comes from Pro DJ, OAP and media personality, Ahammed Shaba of Shregarf Media Consult, who, after carefully listening to Ice King Ochacho’s growing catalogue of songs, says the young act possesses a level of confidence, composure and musical understanding that many older artistes spend years trying to attain.
“If nobody told you Ice King Ochacho’s age before you pressed play, you’d probably never guess it,” Shaba said. “This is one of those rare talents whose music sounds years ahead of his age.”
Rating tracks such as “Choke,” “Ochacho Money,” “Made for More,” “I Can,” “On My Way,” “Oh Papa,” and “Oil on My Head,” Shaba noted that the young artiste is clearly not making music merely for attention, but is steadily discovering his identity and refining a sound that feels natural to him.
According to him, Ice King Ochacho’s delivery is refreshing, his accent authentic rather than manufactured, and his flow smooth — with a confidence on every beat that sets him apart. “He doesn’t sound like someone trying to imitate the biggest names in Afrobeats. He sounds like someone determined to create his own lane. That’s a rare quality, especially at his age,” Shaba said.
Addressing the young star’s privileged background, the media consultant argued that wealth alone cannot manufacture talent. “Wealth can buy studio time. It cannot buy talent, charisma, timing, vocal presence, or the ability to connect with listeners. Those are gifts that must be nurtured, and Ice King Ochacho is proving that he possesses them,” he said.
Shaba urged music lovers to listen to the young act without prejudice, insisting that his future would be shaped more by his talent than by his family name. “He’s not asking to inherit anyone’s throne. He’s quietly building his own, one song at a time,” he added.
