The Edekakpo community in Kogi Local Government Area came alive last weekend as indigenes of the Ekuzi kingdom gathered for a historic coronation.

On Friday, June 5th, Mallam Sule Yakubu was turbaned as the 7th Ohinoyi Gakwu of Edekakpo at the palace of the Ohimegye Igu in Koton-Karfe, drawing dignitaries from within and beyond Kogi State.

Following the turbaning, the new monarch and his people returned to their homeland in grand style, celebrating with music, dance, and displays of the rich cultural heritage of the Ekuzi kingdom.

The colourful celebration continued into Saturday with the royal outing of the Ohinoyi Owuhine, where households and subjects paid homage to their new chief.

Community leaders described the event as a unifying moment for sons and daughters of Edekakpo.

Speaking at the ceremony, Kogi State Commissioner for Solid Minerals and Natural Resources, Chief Abubakar Bashiru Gegu, congratulated the new ruler, calling the coronation a call to greater responsibility and sincere leadership.

Represented by Honourable Yunusa Abdulsalam, the Commissioner urged the monarch to strengthen unity among his people and prayed for Allah’s guidance in his reign.

From youths to elders expressed optimism that the leadership of Mallam Sule Yakubu would usher in peace and development for the Edekakpo community.
